The Orange Mint Julep (Taken with instagram)
- 2-3 tbsp. Simple Syrup
- 2 oz of Whiskey
- 8-10 orange mint leaves (plus a sprig for garnish)
- 2-3 small orange peels
- Crushed ice
Drop 8-10 mint leaves into an rocks glass. Add the orange peels and muddle it all together. Then add the whiskey and simple syrup. Stir it all up. After that add the ice to just a little under the rim and stir again until the glass is frosted and feels cold to the touch. Finally, fill the glass the rest of the way with ice and add another 1/2 tbsp. of simple syrup across the top. Mint sprig for garnish and a cocktail straw from which to drink.
This is perfect for warm weather days. I highly recommend using good whiskey, but mid-shelf will work fine. Using bourbon instead is another option.
Thanks to American Drink for the original recipe and for this advice:
“This drink is meant to be sipped. Take your time with it. Enjoy.”
I second that.
